Patch 3.1 · Reign of the Warlock launch

February 11, 2026

The Reign of the Warlock DLC adds the Warlock, the first new class in 25 years, along with act-wide Terror Zones with Heralds, the Colossal Ancients fight, the Chronicle, a built-in loot filter and stash tabs that stack items.

The Warlock

  • A new playable class, the first added to Diablo II in 25 years, with three skill trees: Demon, Eldritch and Chaos.
  • Demon summons Goatmen, Tainted and Defilers, can take over the demons you fight with Bind Demon and can sacrifice them with Consume to power yourself up.
  • Eldritch hexes your weapon, attacks with ethereal copies of it and can hurl it from a distance.
  • Chaos strikes from afar with hellfire and void: Miasma skills, Apocalypse and Abyss, which pulls enemies in.
  • An innate passive lets the Warlock levitate a two-handed weapon in one hand and still use an off-hand.

Terror Zones and Heralds

  • New consumables let you choose which Act gets terrorized; every zone in it becomes tougher and more rewarding.
  • In Hell, Heralds hunt you down, and each one that catches you is far more dangerous than the last.
  • The Terror Zone rotation now changes every 30 minutes instead of every hour, with regrouped zones.

Colossal Ancients

  • Terrorized Act bosses can drop Ancient statues; putting all five in the Horadric Cube opens the fight.
  • Talic, Korlic and Madawc grow stronger as the fight goes on, and each one you kill empowers the rest.
  • The reward is a unique jewel that depends on the last Ancient killed: Defender's Fire or Defender's Bile (Talic), Protector's Frost or Protector's Stone (Korlic), Guardian's Thunder or Guardian's Light (Madawc).
  • These jewels require level 75 and, like Gheed's Fortune, only one can be equipped at a time.

New items

  • Grimoires, the Warlock's off-hand, come in 15 bases across normal, exceptional and elite, and can roll Warlock skill mods and extra fire or magic damage.
  • Daggers can roll up to three +1 to +3 bonuses to random Warlock skills; vendors in every act now sell them and they were removed from gambling.
  • Two Warlock sets: Bane's Garments, a low-level set, and Horazon's Splendor, a five-piece elite set.
  • Twelve new uniques, among them the Ars Al'Diabolos grimoire, Dreadfang, Wraithstep, the Opalvein and Sling rings and Gheed's Wager.

Runewords

  • Authority (Hel + Shael + Ral) for 3-socket body armor and Coven (Ist + Ral + Io) for 3-socket helms.
  • Void (Thul + Zod + Ist) and Ritual (Amn + Shael + Ohm) for 3-socket daggers.
  • Vigilance (Dol + Gul) for 2-socket shields and grimoires.
  • Hustle was split in two: Hysteria for body armor and Mania for weapons.

Chronicle, loot filter and stash

  • The Chronicle records every unique, set item and runeword you collect, with where and when you found it; completing parts of it unlocks rewards to show off.
  • A built-in loot filter decides what shows up when you press Alt; you can build your own, use community filters and share them by link on PC.
  • Advanced stash tabs stack items, with dedicated tabs for materials, gems, runes and consumables.
  • Buying the DLC adds two stash tabs and two character slots.

Eras and editions

  • The game is split into three separate eras (Classic, Lord of Destruction and Reign of the Warlock), and your existing characters exist in each one independently.
  • Characters can be carried forward (Classic to Lord of Destruction, then to Reign of the Warlock) but never back.
  • The game reached Steam as the Infernal Edition, which bundles the base game and the DLC; Xbox Game Pass only includes the base game.

First fixes (February 12–17)

  • Hotfix 3.1.0.1 (February 12) fixed players being unable to join games because they were in different regions.
  • The same hotfix delivered the Diablo IV and World of Warcraft bonus items to Steam buyers who were missing them.
  • February 17: a server fix stopped online Chronicles from being wiped when identifying set or unique items dropped by weapon and armor racks; offline play got its fix in March.
